Spring Is Here

It’s past the spring equinox and after some jumps between warm and chilly weather, I think spring 2022 has arrived. It’s nice that there’s still a little light out at 6 pm and not having to have the heater on to keep the room at a comfortable temperature.

Before long it’s going to get uncomfortable with hot summer days but you have to the enjoy each season while it lasts and get the most you can out of it. This could mean food and outdoor activities, but also includes cultural and calendar events. In Japan this often means hanami, the picnics or outdoor excursions to go view cherry blossoms, which have been reduced in scale due to COVID in recent years.

Spring marks the end and beginning of fiscal year and also an academic year in Japan. Growing up in the states where the school year basically begins after labor day in August as summer wanes and begins to transition to fall, I first encountered this difference in culture when I signed up to participate in study abroad in college.

I don’t think I’d consider spring my favorite season, but I do feel more energetic and motivated to move like there’s an added spring to my steps, and I hope everyone feels a boost in their mood as well. If it’s allergy season for you, brace yourself for it as well!
