Last Weekend before the end of 2022

Day 12 of writing every day.

I’ve gotten used to the act of picking up my phone and writing quickly on the go. It would be preferable if I started putting in time however instead of really just jotting my thoughts down in the span of ten minutes or so. Perhaps really sitting down and becoming engaged in the activity of writing is my next goal as a writer.

Being able to focus on an activity for any extended period of time in one sitting is what I believe to be the key to making it a consistent thing as opposed to something that we’ll give up like a poorly planned new year’s resolution.

Thinking back on one of the strategies to change behavior, I really need to be careful of attaching the things I need to do with things I find rewarding, like time spent playing games. Games are attractive, I can save money by not going out and can be entertained at my own pace (but am really paced by the game).

Studying on the other hand isn’t engaging to me. I’m watching a video with so many distractions and no interactive feedback. It might be a style suited for people who dislike any human interaction, but I find myself a mix of wanting and needing human interaction but also alone time as well.

The learning environment issue comes into play and perhaps that’s why so many people go to the cafe to work or study, and why cafes often offer WiFi to cater to these customers who are likely to keep returning. Removing yourself from a room that’s been habituated for play or relaxation is going to be harder to focus than an orderly spaced out interior of a cafe.

Compartmentalizing your home is a way I’ve heard from people who’ve adapted to working from home that need to stay focused. Unfortunately in a one room apartment I can’t do it. But perhaps the greatest fail is the mess that my room is and I have no one to blame but me for that.

I’ll start dealing with it when I get home tonight after Aikido. I will. Even if it’s just a little section.

Anyways thanks for reading and have a merry Christmas!
