Tired But Keeping Things Up

Day 15 of writing every day.

I get tired of working a shift that forces me to miss most of my Aikido practices on weekdays.

Most people aren’t even capable of staying focused and perform at their peak eight hours a day, much less during hours that intentionally delay start times so that you spend less time working during hours where people tend to be more alert and productive. There are certainly night owls but the majority of people are most active from morning to evening, not before noon to late in the evening.

If you’ve been up since 7 am, you’re going to be more tired by 8 pm than 6 pm regardless if you worked at all that day. That’s part of the circadian rhythm humans follow as diurnal creatures. Our bodies aren’t adapted to be at our best late at night and we don’t have eyes especially adapted to see well in the dark.

On the other hand we need exposure to the sun to get vitamin D and sunlight acts as a natural signal for us to wake up. Light sources such as fire and electricity only allow us to perform more activities that require light and are no replacement for the sun and the natural cycle we as living beings follow.

Keeping Things Up

I mentioned my goals of seeking to change myself and a big factor in that is getting the skills to find better work opportunities.

So in following the plan, I’m going to schedule consultations with programming schools to find out my best options for learning and what the job market is like.

I see little point in continuing to labor in a position where my efforts mean nothing next to the amount of hours I’m at the desk performing tasks that are making very inefficient use of my current skill sets.

Once I have a clearer idea backed up by professional advice on what my learning options are and should be to maximize my chances of improving my career outlook, I’ll be able to set up a sustainable system for learning built on concrete goals instead of the vague “I’ll learn to code” that’s been the hurdle I keep running into and have trouble getting past.

Just one more day of work before I have the rest of the year and the beginning of January off.

Thanks for reading!
