Day 23 of writing every day.
I recalled being told something about the 5th on the last day of work last year but was mentally not present at the time. It turned out to be a notice about my current assignment in that it doesn’t restart until the 5th, which means that today Jan 4th is actually just a standby day.
I’ll still be working the same hours though since I had thought to show up to see work for the same hours.
It might be a pleasant surprise for this occasion but I did let my guard down and made a mistake with my work schedule, which can be a source of trouble in the future if I’m not careful. I’ll have to be careful even when I’m not mentally in the mood to be. Being careful is something obvious, but I believe many of us fail to heed the obvious because our willpower can be fickle at times even when we feel at our best, and is even less reliable when mentally and emotionally exhausted.
I won’t be counting on luck alone for a successful year, however, and will take this as a gentle lesson to heed best practices no matter how awful I might be feeling.
