Practice, Practice, Practice

Day 43 of writing every day.

I reviewed the video of my Aikido demonstration that took place on Sunday and was not really pleased with how I looked when I went and scrolled through it frame by frame on my phone.

I’m not a perfectionist at all but I aim to make improvements when I am aware of things I could be doing better. Despite it being a few months after I had last demonstrated, I looked and saw that not much had changed. I’ll be honest that I’m holding back and not trying to go all out, but even then I should be aiming to move more sharply.

Practice makes perfect

“Practice makes perfect” is an expression used to emphasize the importance of practice to attain a high level of skill. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to practice much because of my work schedule, but I plan to change things.

You can’t expect meaningful results when you only take music lessons but neglect to practice at home or on your own for example. Reading a cookbook to learn recipes won’t make you a better cook unless you actually cook something and practice by preparing all the ingredients and following all the steps to make a meal.

I myself wouldn’t be able to write like I do right now on a daily basis without the practice of just writing. Thinking about what to write instead of just writing until your thoughts flow and converge into something substantive won’t get you anywhere near that perfectly written article until you actually write.

It’s still in the plans but when I enroll in programming school I’ll need to practice a lot as well on my own to become proficient enough to work as a developer.

So practice and never give up!
