Day 61 of writing every day.
I sustained a minor foot injury about three weeks ago in January during an Aikido demonstration at the memorial event my dojo hosted. I think I wrote about the event but refrained from mentioning the injury as it wasn’t what I felt like writing about.
My pinky toe got overextended and so I think a ligament got torn or sprained as a result when the technique I received kind of forced me along awkwardly. When it happened I felt immediate pain and numbness in the area near the base of my pinky toe on the inside. It wasn’t something that stopped me and dropped me to the ground but I knew something got hurt.

Fortunately it was near the end of the program and I didn’t have to be the recipient for anyone else afterwards, so I was able to just sit and watch the remainder of the time. When it was over, I checked my foot and saw it had swelled a bit and the darkened color suggested there was internal bleeding. There wasn’t a snap or anything and I could still move my toe. It didn’t look misaligned, so I was confident I didn’t need to fear that the worst had happened.
Though weeks have gone by, the swelling in my toe hasn’t gone away by any significant amount, and that prompted me to follow the advice of a massage therapist with some first aid knowledge to have an x-ray taken. After three shots at different angles I was quickly told that there were no signs of any fractures or broken bones with my pinky toe.
Nothing else to do but to wait for the flesh and ligaments to slowly heal and be careful not to do anything that might aggravate the area.
