Day 66 of writing every day.
My morning started off groggy and I hit the snooze button to sleep some more before I had to get up. I always set my alarm to wake me up earlier than I need to get up and make preparations before going to work. The snooze option right now for 11-8 shifts just means I get half an hour to an hour of extra sleep.
I’m pretty sure my circadian rhythm is being thrown off by the 11-8 shift in an office room that’s brightly lit as day the entire time. If anything, the short naps during the fifteen minute break later in the afternoon just before the evening might be making things worse. After all, my body wakes up from a nap thinking it’s daytime still. Perhaps there are experiments that have proven a significant difference in alertness when napping and waking in a dim/dark room vs. a brightly lit room.
Some optimists might say you should go for a run or go to the gym if you’re starting work at 11. Well, work isn’t giving me a stipend for a gym membership to encourage me to lead a healthier more active lifestyle. If I go for a run, there’s always a chance someone on a bicycle or a distracted driver ends up running me over, and I have no control over the weather. Perhaps if such a habit were established it’d be no problem, but I have no intention of working eight-hour days starting at eleven o’clock.
Only those who specifically have nothing to do after work might appreciate starting their eight-hour work day at eleven, but I prefer to actually have an evening to spend how I want it. There’s nothing appealing about having dinner at nine earliest, or missing out on my passion.
Anyways, the day is gonna come and go without any real reason why it couldn’t have been done starting an hour earlier at the least. I’m not even counting how many days I have left. I’m focusing on the things I want and need to get done to stay motivated and not have my life be dominated by work.
