Day 67 of writing every day.
As spring approaches, one of the dreaded tasks that awaits everyone who’s not a paid tax preparer is the process of filing taxes. It’s an annual routine for everyone who has earned income legally. Despite attempts to simplify the process, it’s still a tedious task we have to make time for.
The option to electronically file taxes has been around for not that long and still is something I have yet to figure out. In Japan, the issuance of the My Number Card, which can be used as ID to file e-taxes, has been a mediocre success at best. The Japanese government that is filled with mostly old people who know next to nothing about digital technology is not the best equipped to make policy on this matter in my opinion. So why expect a country where the needs of the elderly seem to outweigh the children and working adults to embrace something they have gotten by just fine without?
I don’t mind giving the e-tax a try. I just hope there won’t be hassles like requiring half-width vs. full-width characters or asking for your name spelled in the English alphabet vs. Japanese. The culture does not have a middle name for people, so having a middle name causes issues at times as some people will ask you to add it to the end of the first name input box of the form.
Anyways another long day at work.
