Mid-week Holiday

Day 74 of writing every day.

Today is the Emperor’s birthday in Japan, making it a holiday. The previous emperor’s birthday was in December if I remember correctly.

I don’t really remember my schedule as a student growing up in the states besides that holidays meant long weekends. If there were holidays in the middle of the week, I don’t remember having them at all.

It’s nice to get a day off from work whether it’s an extension of the weekend or something in the middle of the week. I highly recommend it. Japan’s holidays have a set date instead of a shifting one, such as the last Friday of a specific month, for example.

Unfortunately Saturdays aren’t recognized as the weekend legally even if many businesses view it as such and change their schedules accordingly where workers have the day off. If a national holiday falls on a Saturday, there’s no substitute day off for it; you lose the holiday for the year as a weekday worker. In contrast, if a national holiday falls on a Sunday, then Monday becomes the substitute day off.

After morning class

The computer school I enrolled in doesn’t allow eating on their premises and neither does much of the open space in the office building that houses it.

But people have to eat, so the classroom’s printouts included info that there’s an outdoor space for people who bring food to eat before/after/in between classes. I checked it out and found there is a small Inari shrine constructed. I can see the space being a popular resting spot when the weather improves. There are some pictures I took that are posted below to give you a look.

I feel energized despite getting up earlier than I do for work, and it’s probably because I’m doing things I want to do, not what I’m forced to do. There’s still a lot more going on today, but I’ll just wrap it up and make the most of my day. I don’t want to worry about having to write more, so this my post for today.

Thanks for reading!
