No Benefits Starting Work At 11

Day 80 of writing every day.

An issue I brought up for why I’m discontent with my work conditions is being forced onto a 11-8 shift. Some people might embrace the thought of starting the day late and ending it late rather than getting it over with. Perhaps many of them like to stay up well past midnight at home just before dawn and the crows start crowing.

I have a life I want to live in the waking hours of the day. Honestly, are there societies that ask their kids and young adults to live and learn on the same kind of schedule? I get the idea of delayed gratification for greater rewards, but what’s the point of delaying punishment if it comes with no benefits such as a chance to lighten the sentence and so on?

Starting the day later might grant commuters some reprieve from the rush hour hell that means packed trains and streets where there’s no personal space and hardly any breathing room.

Things have changed though. Less people commute to work than pre COVID times as a result of a sensible approach to allow people to do their work remotely for jobs where it’s possible. This shift seems here to stay even if some organizations seek to find a middle ground that would call their employees to work on-site in the office some of the time for the sake of being together in-person.

Anyways, if I have to work 8 hours a day, I’d rather get it over with than wait. That way the rest of the day is mine and I have more time to enjoy myself than worry about work and showing up on time. What about you?
