Make Time For Yourself

Day 95 of writing every day.

Part of a healthy life is having quality alone time for many people, and I count myself amongst their ranks. But physical health is more than just sleep, diet, and exercise. There are times we need to rely on medical professionals for examples to have our bodies examined, dentists to get our teeth cleaned and checked for cavities, and more recently, professionals on posture such as chiropractors to help restore our bodies to natural positions that don’t cause the pain and discomfort felt as a result of long days stuck in mostly the same position.

So, time for yourself isn’t just about getting away from work and other people. Nor is it all about focusing on your hobbies. It’s also a time to reexamine yourself and assess how you are doing physically and mentally, and to visit the doctor or some type of therapist. You might actually find there’s something you wouldn’t have noticed on your own. It could be life-saving, life-changing, or just therapeutic.

There’s no outsourcing of your body when it comes to taking care of it. You can’t give your body up for a day and have someone else take it to the doctor, or have them sort your own thoughts for you. People can listen and give you feedback, but ultimately the power to change anything about you, and the responsibility to act, falls upon you yourself.

I think it’s time for a visit to the chiropractor, or rather the osteopathic clinic for a check up on my postural health. I’ve been following their advice to move and stretch regularly, but life gets busy and work sometimes puts me in uncomfortable positions that I have to work under. And in that sense I’m glad that tomorrow is my final day at my job and I’m finally making much needed time for myself.
