Spring is allergy season for many and while I don’t recall really suffering from pollen when I was a kid, the allergies are present without a doubt as an adult. Minnesota has its fair share of nature and I do recall having a runny nose from seasonal allergies and taking OTC medicine for the symptoms. Having been in Japan for ten years and going, my memories of the past life I led do grow more distant with time.
In recent years it feels like my allergies have gotten worse. I don’t recall really needing medicine to keep myself feeling okay in the first few years I was in Japan on the JET Program and teaching English as a classroom assistant. However, this year in particular feels like it’s been the worst ever so far out of my ten years in Japan. I heard that climate change has been affecting the trees and making the amount of pollen released drastically.
I’ve posted about itchy eyes and a runny nose a couple times already and lately it’s gotten so bad that even being in my room I get allergies. One night I even slept with a mask on. I ordered an air purifier the other day and had it redelivered for this morning.
Anyways, today wasn’t as bad as the previous days and I had just taken the allergy medication for the day right before the purifier arrived. I wasn’t quite sure of the effects it offered, but when I stepped out on the balcony and started getting a runny nose when I had been perfectly fine indoors, I knew that it was indeed cleaning the air of whatever it was that was giving me issues.
Not much else happened today besides doing a little house cleaning and paying rent. My landlord has a hobby of gardening and actually gave me a couple freshly harvested onions after I asked about what he’s been growing. I ended up getting ramen for lunch at a nearby ramen place that I hadn’t gone to for a month or so.
