Back To Studying

Day 145 of writing every day.

Having studied at least a couple hours every day with the goal of finding a new job, I gave myself a day off yesterday. While going to Comicon felt like an ordeal—being so crowded and all—it didn’t really feel like a break. However, it was a change of pace and the first time I went out for something that was more than just shopping or to watch a movie.

I was too tired mentally to study, so I spent some time gaming, another thing I had given up to an extent while focusing on studying. I had installed Homescapes, a popular puzzle mobile game that probably paid Google or Sony for advertising as it showed up as a recommendation when the system got updated and the system was like “Get these apps as part of your optimization!”

Addiction to gaming is real, but I wasn’t addicted to Homescapes nor did I spend a single yen on it, even with the 95% off sale for in-game items and stuff. It was just that my mind needed some play time and a smartphone installed with games set within arms reach became a problematic distraction. Especially if the game could be played in short sessions that could spiral out of control into 30 minutes or more.

So, I knew what would be best for me and deleted the app a few days ago, and came to accept the need to play something to keep myself from feeling dull and bored. I’m sure building things with code and frameworks can be exciting once I’ve reached a certain level of skill, but until then, there’s no reason to kill myself mentally by forcing myself to learn at a pace that’s not currently sustainable for me.

After a break, I feel refreshed enough to keep on going.

Thanks for reading!
