Day 149 of writing every day.
The issue with slight swelling on my ankle had improved slightly compared to the past couple days. Walking wasn’t that big of an issue yesterday and I was doing just fine during the regular Aikido class. But I was still feeling internal resistance that caused discomfort while on my feet getting around outside.
The osteopathic clinic suggested receiving ultrasonic treatment for my ankle since it looked like some of the fatty tissue around the ankle was constricted or clogged, so probably something blood flow related that’s not necessarily muscular damage. I figured why not give it a try and do it for the experience.
When I asked, they told me that just one five-minute would probably help with the slight swelling, and that if I wanted the same for my toe, it might take several sessions to see noticeable improvements. I decided to give it a shot as the price at 1100 yen per session seemed reasonable enough for a treatment that only a clinic could perform.
Basically you get some gel applied to a localized area and the ultrasound device gets placed and moved around the spot. It seems like most people don’t feel a thing when receiving ultrasound, but I felt something going on deep beneath my skin. When I got to the electric therapy massage after the ultrasonic treatment, I felt like the relieving effect was more effective than before. I even noticed some sweat forming on my leg too.
I don’t know if I’ll commit to a treatment pass that’s longer than however many more times I plan to visit by mid June, but I think I’ll go for the ultrasonic treatment a few more times, focusing on my toe next time. My ankle didn’t miraculously heal after today’s session, but it felt like I recovered much more today than I did over the past few days.
