Day 150 of writing every day.
The osteopathic clinic I’ve been going to is closed on Thursdays, which provides me with a forced break in the week to see how my body feels and check my condition on a day I don’t receive massage and adjustments to help restore my body.
I saw an ad for a Thai Stretching studio a while back on Instagram and have been meaning to check it out sometime. Of course, it’s not considered a medical practice by any means and is paid out of pocket, but the pricing seemed comparable to other massage salons around that aren’t advertising themselves as cheap and catering to local elderly folks.
My curiosity is piqued because I had never been to a Thai massage parlor even though they’re easy enough to find in certain areas. They’re nowhere near as common as osteopathic clinics, but I’m open to trying new things out that could help me better understand my body and how things work and how they’re connected/related.
The Experience
I ended up showing up a little early since the commute went smoother than anticipated. Despite being in the city, the store’s location inside a typical looking block building make it hard to stumble across by accident. They’re good with providing directions though, and the nearest exit from the nearest station makes getting to them take less than a minute.
The exterior looked pretty older-office-building typical but the interior was exactly like the pictures. White sheets separated the spaces and there was soothing ambience. It was quite a contrast from the upbeat shared space feel of a stretching shop with staff dressed in athletic clothing that I used a couple years ago.
If there is one thing that separates this Thai massage from standard massages I’ve had, it’d be that I’m lying on a mattress on the floor instead of a raised bed, and that the masseuse is at the same level with me, rather than standing, either over me or to the side of the bed.
The masseuse isn’t a huge woman by any means but she has a pretty firm grip and applied pressure just right so the massage went deep. I was quite impressed and it felt pretty good, even if different in approach. The osteopathic clinics can vary in quality even if the staff hold the same certifications. This lady probably doesn’t have their kind of certification, but she certainly seems to know her stuff and has talent.
