Proof Of Job Hunting Activity: Done

Day 170 of writing every day.

Yesterday I went in for the info session on receiving unemployment benefits. I mentioned that as a requirement for qualifying to receive money you must prove yourself as having done some kind of job hunting activity. What I did today by going to look at job postings in-person at the nearest Hello Work office to where I live counted towards that requirement.

Being located just outside the train station nearest to my apartment, getting to the local Hello Work office was a breeze. I’d been in the building many times before for piano lessons when I had the time and money while working as an assistant English teacher years ago. The office isn’t designated as a “foreigners’ job office,” which just means that this Hello Work office doesn’t have English and other language support. I could look on the computer and access the same database of job postings regardless.

Having been in Japan for a decade, there’s not much point for me to go to any “foreigner” places or use their menus. I’m not like many of the people who stay for years and choose not to learn a spec of Japanese while acting like they’re superior because Japanese things are beneath them but life is comfortable enough for them here.

Returning to the subject, all that’s required of me regarding Hello Work for the time being is to show up to the precinct office two weeks later at the date and time they appointed to get to the next step of the process. In the meantime I hope to hear back from my career advisor to see if I get any interview requests for positions I indicated I’d be interested in, and probably some that would be just for practice if they decided to choose something for me on their own.

Thanks for reading!
