Day 182 of writing every day.
I’ve had a pretty good run for a while in terms of sleeping and not waking up with neck pain that was the result of a bad position either from sleeping at a weird angle or from my pillow not being well matched to my body. However, this past weekend was not so good and I ended up getting a knot in my left neck and shoulder that made turning my head and even some arm and shoulder motions painful and unwieldy.
Fortunately, I still go into the osteopathic clinic for massage and ultrasound treatments, and they offered me a 5-minute targeted massage for that type of issue for only 660 or about 6 USD. While the massage was painful, it was also relieving. I felt a lot better afterwards and the improvement specifically to my neck and shoulder area exceeded that of a night’s rest.
Getting a knot in your shoulder and neck area really hurts and there’s only so much you can do if you can’t pinpoint the exact spot troubling you and apply the needed force with accuracy to help relieve it. Just randomly massaging yourself might worsen things by causing unwanted inflammation, and trying to balance both sides out may just cause the other side to develop tightness issues as well.
I’m hoping tonight will be a good night’s sleep and I’m gambling on a new pillow that’s got pretty good ratings on Amazon that’s said to be designed by a osteopathic therapist. I’ll include the pillow I bought if anyone is curious to see what it’s all about.
