Day 184 of writing every day.
It’s been a tiring day for me. While it’s not like I worked an 8 hour job today or anything, I didn’t sleep that long last night or at least I had trouble staying asleep as long as I would have liked this morning. I made it up later with a couple afternoon naps though.
Getting to the story I have for today, I first went off to Hello Work to submit my proof of job hunting activity and get certified to receive unemployment benefits after I start working to make up for some of the lost income resulting from being unemployed. That took care of itself rather quickly and I was on my way out and back within the hour.
A job interview was scheduled today at 1 PM, so I got an early lunch near my station before heading back to my apartment and quickly fell asleep when the sleep deprivation from last night caught up with me. I planned it out with an alarm set up so I could review the content of my resumes and the company that’s interviewing me. I also set aside time to suit up and look serious about wanting the job in the online meeting on Microsoft Teams.
The interview started off without a hitch for me, but the interviewer unfortunately ran into technical issues some way in that led to the company boss, who was also present, taking over with the questions.
I think I answered the questions and prompts just fine, but I was a little concerned/confused when asked if I had any health conditions and my marital status. I don’t think there was any attempt to invade my privacy so much as to assess if I might present some risks that might make me unreliable as a worker when it comes to attendance, maybe. But that kind of question certainly felt invasive if used in hiring practices.
Anyways after telling my story as a worker, I was asked zone industry related questions that seemed to check if I had even done some basic research into the industry I was trying to get a job in. I probably answered satisfactorily but the boss wasn’t letting on much with his face and the screen being unreliably laggy. I had the impression that things were going well though.
At the end of the interview I was told by the boss if I’d say yes on the spot if they offered the job to me in a hypothetical, but I took a raincheck on it. I want to see how the interviews go with the other companies as well. Interviews can be a beneficial learning experience and I intend to take the best offer I am given, not take whatever I can get if possible. A couple hours afterwards I got a call from their HR stating they’d like to work with me, so I got the job offer already. That’s pretty quick but I still have to be cool about it to maximize my opportunities right now.
