Study Time: Holding Myself Accountable Day 2

Day 190 of writing every day.

Going to work for 8 hours a day might take some getting used to, but studying for the same amount of time a day feels much harder. I’ll be logging my study progress for the time being instead of writing my thoughts as much for the time being

Morning:

I woke up early before my usual weekday alarm and set off quickly to finish what I started yesterday. There were a couple job referrals from Hello Work that had to be mailed in that I simply ran out of mental energy to do yesterday. So, I got my backpack and went out to get some breakfast first then circled back to the convenience store to print out the large A3-size paper that my two-page resume had been created on.

With the resume printed out, I went back to my room to prepare the documents I had to mail in to apply for the jobs. My work history sheet had to be slightly modified for a job that was asking for English skills and had nothing to do with programming, but I got that out of the way quickly without spending too much mental energy thinking how to perfect a position I was applying to more as a backup that also seemed a lot better than teaching English.

Once I got the work history sheets out, it was time to stuff the envelope but also write out the address so it could be mailed out. I grew up in an age when people still wrote mail at times but also when it phased out of relevance for written communication, replaced by occasional emails that became the norm alongside texting.

When it was ready to go, I went to the nearest post office and had it sent out on express mail which would arrive tomorrow. I could have hand delivered them today for less money, but that’s not how applying for jobs work. I ended up studying around an hour during what remained of the morning and then took a nap before lunch since I felt tired. After all, I was still spending a little time checking the rejection notices and feeling a bit hopeless that companies see my name and age and use that to automatically deem me the unfit for consideration.

Afternoon:

I had some positive news in that I saw human replies asking for me to send in my resume separately after applying to their opening on indeed. I even ended up getting an invitation for a zoom session with one of the companies, which after a quick check, looks to be a small company of just over ten people. I don’t know what to expect but it’s a glimmer of hope as I opted to pass on the security that a job offered my visa status, and I’m feeling desperate enough to take anything that comes my way now even if what’s offered is comparable or potentially worse.

I ended up studying close to an hour as well.

Night:

I had to leave for the osteopathic clinic to finish the last of the massage treatments I’ve been receiving. Three months have passed since I started, and my toe has really gotten better with the ultrasound treatments. The insurance coverage only goes up to three months and going beyond would also mean some special paperwork that would need to be handled under the category of “long-term” treatment, so it’s good that I’m able to wrap things up with my toe feeling normal again.

By the time I got home it was late, so I will try to squeeze in half an hour of study before relaxing for the rest of the night.

Thanks for reading!
