New Interim Goal

Day 201 of writing every day.

In Japan, there’s a nationally accredited certification commonly known as the “IT Passport.” It’s earned by passing a state exam held at testing centers held regularly throughout the year across the country.

I had thought about studying for it before but never felt like I needed to or understood what practical value it might serve. I had thoughts of switching careers and going into IT despite not having previous work experience nor a computer background. But ads are everywhere about learning to code and changing careers that changes life for the better. Why not?

Anyways, my initial plans were to focus on studying and building a portfolio that demonstrates competency in a language and having the ability to create something as concrete evidence. Perhaps in this regard my brother’s advice was not best suited for job hunting in Japan. It seems rather than trying to sell myself with a half finished portfolio, having a Java skill certificate or anything that had to be earned by taking a test would have boosted my value on paper even if it came at the cost of a portfolio that still sits unfinished despite approaching the end of my enrollment period and lessons.

Well, I bought a study book for the IT Passport exam and have started going through it. I think I should be more than able to pass it in one attempt but there’s still a lot of material to cover. Even if it’s mostly fundamental level business world knowledge with a bit of tech related material, I think just learning the stuff will enhance my understanding of the business operation side of companies that I never really got the chance to learn in the previous jobs I’ve held.

Thanks for reading!
