Day 244 of writing every day.
I was switching out the water for the containers I keep killifish in today when I noticed that there were fertilized eggs in the one containing fish that just spawned this summer. They’re only a couple months old but with the daily meals, they did grow up pretty fast.
Initially around half the size of a grain of rice, the killifish fry live off the nutrient sack they’re born with and then move on to eating very small algae that naturally forms along the sides of the container. Now they’re close to adult size and we’re even capable of laying eggs. Of course, the summer has been pretty hot, and that drives their metabolism and they seem to always be wanting for feed when I check in with them.
I guess I’ll have two generations of fish spawned this year if the fish from the unexpected cluster of eggs survive.
Thanks for reading!
