Interview Preparation

Day 302 of writing every day.

Being in the SES part of the IT industry means being open to all sorts of roles and some might not even involve coding at all. I’m still in the middle of my current assignment, but my company’s sales and boss continue to send assignment opportunities my way whenever they think it might be of interest to me or beneficial in terms of experience.

Today I got two assignment opportunities sent my way and both were kitting type assignments. I’m not sure this is what we’d use in American English, but kitting in Japan for the IT industry seems to refer to the job of installing default software into PCs and other types of hardware. There’s not always a skill requirement beyond being able to follow the manual.

I didn’t want to look like the lazy bum with a picky attitude to my boss, so I looked at the assignment opportunities with sincere interest and honest evaluation of whether the hours and locations are plausible for me. Commuting one hour one way at peak morning rush hour in a jam packed train and waking up really early every day does not sound like something I want. That’s why I’ll decline assignments that I’m positive will be hell in terms of commute and ones where I’d be unable to have a proper night to enjoy after work.

Anyways, after replying okay to entering myself as a candidate for an assignment that seemed commutable I was told an interview might get scheduled right away. So tomorrow I’ll be having a practice interview and feedback session during the morning and then heading into my current assignment in the afternoon.
