Day 312 of writing every day.
It feels like I’m at a transition stage of training given that I just finished my interview confirming the acceptance of a kitting position at a warehouse from mid November through early March of next year. Although the training camp is a real assignment, it’s more of a connection based favor than an actual paid contract, so my employer is probably not getting any money out of the current arrangement, but us trainees get hands-on experience working on a beginner level project potentially from start to finish as helpers because the company we’re helping out needs some extra hands.
I’m not excited about the kitting position to be honest. Everyone wants to become an engineer or programmer whether it’s front, back, or infrastructure. Kitting is like work no one wants as it’s not going to add to their skill set directly and is mostly physical labor in a warehouse. But they need people to get it done still, and the work requires attention to detail and the ability to follow steps on manuals. It’s low skill labor to be honest, but involves some level of care that probably makes staffers look for labor outside of the package handlers who just hastily toss things around.
Another thing is that warehouse work probably doesn’t pay anywhere near as much as a construction laborer position as well. A lot more money goes into construction simply because of the value of real estate I assume, so there’s a lot more to go around.
Anyways I should enjoy things while they last and prepare myself mentally for the challenges that I’ll have to ensure in the coming months. I hate having to wake up early and squeeze onto packed morning rush hour trains, but that’s what I’ll have to do. Even though the job starts from 9, the locations of warehouses are basically out of the way places that no one wants, making them quite distant from the nearest station as well. So I need to add in the time to get to the warehouse from the station, and also to walk from the warehouse district all the way to the actual warehouse I’ll be in as well.
Given all these additional factors making my work experience a lot more stressful, I think I should get extra compensation, but that’s not going to happen based on my contract.
In all honesty, I wasn’t too impressed with the head rep of the assignment I’ll be joining. His talk was long-winded and ran on many tangents. I’m pretty sure it could have all been done within one hour following the test if they had been properly prepared and on top of things. But alas, they weren’t.
Thankfully the weekend is around the corner and there’s even a banquet tomorrow after a special training session at my current assignment tomorrow. Just gotta stay positive when I can.
