Day 313 of writing every day.
I’m still recovering from what I’m assuming to be a cold though the symptoms have been very mild and I feel mostly unaffected today. I cough up some small chunks of phlegm, which is pretty usual in cases of infections affecting the respiratory tract. But my coughing is pretty minimal during the day and only seems to act up a bit at night before sleep. When I get ready to sleep, my throat feels like there’s an itch inside and that reflexively triggers the act of coughing. Figuring that it’s probably my body telling me there’s phlegm buildup, I actively try to hack up as much as I can from the back of my mouth without causing discomfort.
I guess it’s good that I got sick now rather than later and with only something that’s been very mild so far. If whatever cold viruses that’s going around don’t mutate to any significant degree this winter, I might have some added protection. I only found out that my kitting assignment is starting a week earlier when my boss called to ask if I’m consenting to the schedule change. I could say no but what difference would it make anyways if there are boxes of equipment waiting to be assembled by early March? If anything, starting early might avert the risk of being asked to do overtime if for some reason the pace falls behind and unexpected crunch time happens.
There’s only two weeks left on my current training assignment, so I best make the most of it and contribute what I can to leave as good an impression on the company. I’m guessing the success of SES engineers are less about the company they are directly employed by and more about the connections they make along the way and the impression they leave. Sales can only create an opening, but it’s up to the engineers to take that opportunity and turn it into a profitable relationship.
