Last Day Of Training Assignment

Day 325 of writing every day.

It’s a long weekend in Japan, and with Friday off, today is my last day on the training assignment. Next week I’ll be up bright and early off to start a 4 month kitting assignment at a warehouse. I’d say it’s been a pleasant journey so far, and a month on an assignment has felt far more enriching than a month of all the study time I could have alone by myself.

I still wore a short sleeve polo today as it’s still pretty warm in Osaka despite it being November. I put on a light jacket and I’ll be sweating, but it’s still a precaution in case there is a significant dip in temperature at night.

With it being my last day, I don’t think there were much expectations set for me to complete anything as much as tying up as many loose ends as I can and making things look and feel manageable for the two who will continue to work the project for another two weeks. It felt kinda nice seeing how my departure came as a heavy loss to the group. I’ll take that as proof that I made an impact and a difference being there.

The guy who works for the company where the assignment is at even shed some tears as the evening report was wrapping up and my last submission for the project was reported. It was only a month, but for someone to shed tears makes me feel like I am quite valued. I feel like I meant more to the people I worked alongside during my month there than to the kids I spent all the years with doing my best to teach them English in an environment where everything was already set in stone and I had no real voice to be myself.

I wish them the best though as things are outta my hands now and I did everything I could think of to make the handover as smooth as possible. It’s not much to put on a resume but now I’m a lot more proficient with Access than I started out with and have some experience writing VBA.

Thanks for reading!
