Two Weeks In

Day 339 and 340 of writing every day.

This is a joint post since I forgot to upload yesterday’s post.

I’m about two weeks into the kitting assignment now. While I think the work might help toughen me up physically and mentally, it’s not doing much in terms of building sellable experience. If I’m lucky, maybe some new connections might be made, but the pace just doesn’t allow for idle chatter, and break time is basically nap time because everyone is exhausted.

Anyways, mistakes are part of being human and we’re not meant to be machines that operate at the same pace without interruption for hours straight. Setting a fast pace only increases the risk of mistakes and that’s very dangerous given how picky about how everything should be set up according to the set method and Japan can be quite picky about these things.

Thursday ended up with a last minute mistake that I felt the supervisors unnecessarily kept everyone behind for. This meant waking all the way to my train station on foot for over 20 minutes at a brisk pace or waiting an hour for the next bus leaving the warehouse. it didn’t count as overtime but everyone who rode the bus was forced to delay their trip home as a result of decisions by managers.

Friday couldn’t have been more welcome I’d say. The fatigue builds up and I want to do more than just spend my day turning screws and tying cables. Mistakes continue to be made and discovered, so the end of the day was met with a minor scolding (stern reminder) from management to the crew that they need to do things carefully cause they have to apologize to the clients for mistakes.

Fortunately this Friday ended on time for me.

Thanks for checking in!
