Posting weekly

Days 351 – 356 of writing every day.

Tuesday was okay but I felt tired with how things were going. Though the main supervisor was out because of family matters things weren’t really getting any more enjoyable except that there seemed to be less micromanaging. The pace they set seemed to be miscalculated because after all was said and done, some components weren’t delivered yet so kitting could only be performed for whatever was left. The higher-ups on site were able to find busy work for the crew though, so it wasn’t a wasted day.

Wednesday marked the start of working with a different set of components that should have made things simpler and faster, but again, the higher-ups seem to have miscalculated by assuming that kitting time would double because a unit would take a few steps less to assemble, rather than do the math by examining the actual amount of minutes that would change on average per person and how many units could be made in a day’s time.

Thursday, the supervisor came back and things seemed calm for a while, but it turned out that at the end of the day, one of the crew was leaving that day and being replaced by someone else on Friday. Unfortunately the guy had some preexisting condition that causes his nerves to be extra sensitive to pain or something and also could make his hands less steady than someone without the condition. I don’t know how the law works, but it sounded like he was cut from the crew by the higher-ups because of his condition even though he seemed to be doing his job well as far as I knew.

Friday, the end of the week. With one person short and another reassigned to a different task within the overall kitting project, meeting the daily quota was impossible. At least the supervisors weren’t delusional about it and knew the shortage in personnel meant not hitting the weekly quota. The replacement would only show up in the afternoon and they’d need to go through the whole training process to learn the steps, so they were going to need time before they could be expected to have a reasonably fast output.

Getting used to the work actually started to suck. My fingers hurt and when you are able to do things on auto run, you mentally clock out and are much more prone to making mistakes. Fortunately I was able to catch myself before I did anything that would require me to backtrack and lose time. The day actually felt quite slow until the afternoon lunch break.

Saturday, finally the weekend. Time to enjoy myself. The year is coming to a close but I find the thought of continuing the assignment for another 3 months to be quite tedious and mentally draining.

Thanks for checking in!
