Day 113 of writing every day.
I awoke to itchy eyes and soon a runny nose this morning. I left the air purifier on what should have been night mode before going to bed last night. It turns off the sensor lights and sets it to a low power quiet state. When I reset it back to power mode after experiencing allergy symptoms, the light showed green at first. I wasn’t sure if it was reading it right but after a few minutes it went from green to orange to red. Something was definitely in the air.
I took allergy medication in the morning after a quick face wash but unfortunately the runny nose and itchy eyes persisted through the end of my one hour of being at home in the morning. The air purifier was only to level orange after a power mode cycle and return to high mode for an hour.
I left my room to take the final lessons for my programming course and complete a textbook exercise of a single page application that just does something as simple as adding and deleting name entries without reloading pages. We take for granted how these things just work on the internet when registering an account to login and get access to products and services, or to do shopping, but what goes on behind the user interface is quite complex, especially to a beginner.
Fortunately or unfortunately, there ended up being an issue with the code that was used by the textbook and my lessons were allowed to be rescheduled for next week or later instead of counting them. If they got counted, I would have completed the course but when I spent some time reviewing materials after reaching the end of the textbook without actually getting to test run the textbook exercise code, I found that I was only starting to get a concrete grasp of the materials.
Everything about my understanding of React had been iffy and half guessing, but things finally feel like they’re starting to connect and make sense. What seemed like really complicated code was really just the compacting of longer codes and I was failing to see that they were just used to target and select bits of data.
I’m still trying to wrap my mind around the code and principles of the language. i.e. {this.props.name} and {this.props.address} where “name” and “address” are properties of an object. {this.props} is used to locate names with different id. This way the code will just read all the entries given instead of someone manually entering names one by one every time they’re trying to call up all the info.
Now that I have more time to review and practice on my own, I think I’ll be finishing the course with a better level of understanding than I would if I just finished today after cramming at a very fast pace. I’m planning to enroll in an online school next though as I feel like I’ll learn better and get more practice learning at home at my own pace instead of a set classroom period where I try to cover everything at the expected pace.
Thanks for reading!
