Unplugging

Day 176 of writing every day.

Books have been around for millennia and while electronic devices have made e-books a reality, many people still choose paper over a screen. I grew up with books and witnessed the changes as technology advanced in ways they changed how people live life in these decades. Lifestyle changes might be happening much faster in these past decades compared to the preceding centuries of technological and social changes.

Everyone seems to be plugged in today and it’s part of school, work, and life at home for many. Learning to program, it runs counter to stereotypes that some learners might actually prefer printed study materials as opposed to reading materials in electronic format. I mean a phone and tablet are about as portable as a book if people are concerned about being able to study on the go.

I guess the nice thing I like about books is that there’s no need to swipe, click, or scroll. Flipping through the pages feels a lot more satisfying, and the color tone of paper feels easier on the eyes than a litup screen filled with menus, buttons, and other distractions. There’s no loading time required with books.

In that regard, I think I might follow the advice I’ve read and get a book for studying programming. Sure, information might eventually get outdated, but some fundamentals remain unchanged as well.

Thanks for reading!
