It’s been a while since I posted here but how’s everyone doing? I started a new job in April 2026 after my previous job contract expired without any offers of extensions due to budgeting limits by Osaka City for temp workers. I didn’t work for Osaka City directly but the foundation I worked for depended almost wholly on Osaka City for staffing. Special funds were set aside for hiring temp staff to prepare for the huge influx of tourists for the 2025 World Expo in Osaka and the funds lasted for the entire fiscal year to keep me employed there.
Long story short, the World Expo had little effect on the inquiries and consultations that still came mostly from residents. Tourists continued to get information from places aiming to serve them specifically. My primary duties continued to be responding to inquiries in English and helping plan and organize events funded by grants.
A year passed by without much drama and just going learning to perform my duties and leaving work on time, which is rare for most work places in Japan. But as a primarily publicly funded organization, management was strict about being in line with the rules and labor laws.
I had been job hunting since the start of 2026 and didn’t have any luck until the end of March and early April when I finally got positive responses to my job application. Now I’m a candidate for manager at a small administrative scrivener’s office.
Things are looking up I think.
